Strips vs. pills: the format fight

SEPTEMBER 15, 2026

The pill is the default format of the supplement industry — not because it's ideal, but because it's established. Factories are tooled for it, shelves are shaped for it, and habits are built around it. When you compare the two formats line by line, the question isn't which one is “better.” It's which one fits the way you actually live. Here's the honest ledger.

Water

Pills need it; strips don't. That sounds trivial until you audit when you actually take supplements: in the car, at the gym, mid-flight, at 11pm when the glass is downstairs. Every glass of water a format requires is a small tax on consistency — and consistency, not intensity, is what a daily supplement routine runs on. Difficulty swallowing solid pills is common enough to be studied in general practice populations.¹

Portability

A month of capsules lives in a bottle that rattles like a maraca and announces itself in every bag. A month of strips is thirty films in a tin thinner than a deck of cards. One format gets decanted into pill organizers and forgotten in cabinets; the other rides in a jacket pocket without a sound.

Dosing precision

Every Onset strip is a single pre-measured dose — the film is manufactured with the actives distributed through it, so one strip equals one serving, every time. Pill routines often mean two, three, or four capsules per serving, counted out by hand. Nothing to count is nothing to miscount.

Consistency, not intensity, is what a daily routine runs on.

Taste

Pills solve taste by hiding it — coatings, shells, and a fast swallow. Strips solve it by finishing it: a few seconds of real flavor (cranberry, raspberry, mango, mixed berry, chocolate), sweetened with stevia, monk fruit, and erythritol, then gone. No capsule burps, no chalk, no coating aftertaste.

Absorption route

The structural difference: a pill's actives are absorbed after digestion, and a strip's absorption begins at the sublingual membrane in the mouth.* Different route, different starting line. We don't claim efficacy multiples — we publish the format facts and let the label speak.² ³

Where pills still win

Fairness clause: some compounds only make sense as pills — doses too large for a film, oils, minerals in gram quantities. The strip is the right tool for precise, milligram-scale actives taken daily. That's exactly the territory Onset builds in, and we stay inside it.

The verdict isn't that pills are obsolete. It's that the default format was never designed around your day — and now there's one that is.
